A Taxonomic Atlas of the Eurasian and North African Noctuoidea. Plusiinae II. - The Witt Catalogue, Volume 4.
The fourth volume of the Catalogue is the second part of the subfamily Plusiinae, including the tribes Omorphinini, Abrostolini and Argyrogrammatini. The book includes the species and subspecies of altogether 17 genera, three of them are newly established (Kuelvarosiplusia, Vittaplusia and Stigmoctenoplusia); furthermore, three new subgenera are distinguished (Circumplusia and Exquiplusia within Thysanoplusia; Petraplusia within Vittaplusia). The Plusiinae II. volume contains 95 text pages with the latest taxonomic information, full synonymy and effective diagnoses of all known Palaearctic and Oriental taxa, with the descriptions of 3 new species, 4 new synonymies, 14 new combinations, 3 new stati and the designations of lectotypes of 14 taxa. The volume is illustrated with 39 colour plates: 29 plates display all taxa in magnified images and 10 plates show the variation of the taxa in natural size. The genitalia of all species and subspecies are shown in 114 black and white plates. The whole book counts altogether 280 pages in A/4 size. With this book, the subfamily Plusiinae has become the first large taxonomic unit which has been completed within the series; all Plusiinae species recorded from Eurasia and North Africa can be found in the two volumes, from the Canary Islands to Japan, from Africa north of the Sahara, Europe, and all parts of the continental Asia to the archipelago as far to the south-east as eastern Indonesia. Thus, these two items of the series provide a good base for the successful identification of the Plusiinae species occurring in Eurasia and North Africa.
